27 March, 2012

Accolade Wines has launched a limited edition pack for Stone’s ginger wine.

The “Fabulously British” pack will be available from April to August and aims to highlight the brand’s British heritage.

It features a Union Jack on the label, which Accolade hopes will make the wine stand out more on shelves.

It also includes a recipe for the Stone’s Ginger Lemonade Cup, which blends the wine with lemonade, ice, slices of cucumber, ripe fruit and mint.

European marketing director Clare Griffiths said: “As the UK’s number one, Stone’s performs exceptionally well throughout winter and the Christmas season.

“Building on this success, there is a fantastic opportunity to drive the brand forward and boost awareness throughout the summer season. 2012 is a big year for British consumers, with much to celebrate, and as a brand with 250 years of British heritage, Stone’s is the perfect accompaniment to these celebrations.”

The limited edition 70cl bottle has an rrp of £5.49.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
