Draycott and Lusa join Spain's caballeros

29 February, 2012

González Byass sales director Melissa Draycott and London restaurateur Abel Lusa have joined the ranks of the Gran Orden de Caballeros.

The order was founded in 1984 to recognise people in the UK trade who had particularly worked to promote Spanish wine.

Draycott and Lusa were announced a dinner at London’s Dorchester Hotel.

There are now 59 caballeros from the UK and Spain. They are chosen by being nominated and then elected in a closed ballot.

Last year the order teamed up with the WSET to award a special bursary to a student of the Advanced Certificate. The winner travels to a number of Spanish wine regions and is an honorary caballero for a year.
