Golden ticket to the Golden State

17 February, 2012

The Wine Institute of California and Off Licence News are giving independents the chance to win a trip to the Golden State and an Enomatic wine sampling machine.

Our Golden Ticket to the Golden State promotion returns for another year to give retailers a greater understanding of Californian wines and how they can fit their range.

As part of the initiative, four lucky readers will win a trip to California in June to experience the wines for themselves and meet the producers behind some iconic brands, as well as discovering some lesser-known gems.

When they return, each of the retailers will be asked to run an in-store promotion of Californian wines, inspired by their trip.

To enhance the in-store activity, this year we have teamed up with Enomatic to give each of the winning independents a state-of-the-art sampling machine for a three-week period.

At the end of the promotions, the retailer that the judges believe did the most to boost their Californian range will win the Enomatic machine to keep. The prize also includes a one-year guarantee.

Entering couldn’t be easier: simply tell us in 500 words or fewer why you deserve to win this fantastic prize and how you would promote Californian wines in-store.

Importers can also nominate the independent they believe deserves to win and would most benefit.

To champion a retailer, please also write in telling us why in 500 words or fewer.

The deadline for entries and nominations is March 30. To enter, or for more details, email sarah.stevens@agilemedia.co.uk

The competition is only open to independents operating single stores or small, specialist chains.

In the not-too-distant future, when all humans are born with inbuilt VR headsets and Trump is Supreme Commander of the Known Universe, how will students of wine look back on the present era of retail in the UK? And, in such a dystopian world, why would anyone care?
