Mont Tauch releases 'sustainable' Fitou

25 October, 2011

Mont Tauch has launched a sustainably produced single vineyard Fitou in Marks & Spencer.

Château de Montmal is grown in the schistous hills around the village of Villeneuve, and its 2009 vintage (rrp £11.99) is available from M&S online.

The Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grapes for the blend are grown with a number of environmentally friendly production methods, including monitoring insect populations in the vineyard and using responsible fertiliser. The estate is approved by French sustainable viticulture body Terra Vitis and is seeking organic accreditation.

Mont Tauch export director Ludovic Braconnier said: “Mont Tauch is committed to only producing premium quality Fitou and other local southern French IGP single varietal wines using sustainable agriculture. Château de Montmal is a perfect example of this and demonstrates just what Mont Tauch is capable of.”

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
