Hunter takes PLB wine brands role

Wine supplier PLB has appointed Willem Hunter as brand manager for its Viña Ventisquero and Yali Chilean wines, Spier from South Africa and California’s Sutter Home and Trinchero Family Vineyards.

Hunter was previously with Waverley TBS and has also worked for Majestic.

Nicola Basterfield has also joined PLB, as national account manager for the Co-op. She was previously in national accounts with Magners cider.

Emmanuel Taupin has been appointed area manager for the northern Home Counties as part of PLB’s on-trade and speciality retail team.

Taupin has been a sales manager with Lanson International for 10 years.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
