Sainsbury's Yates becomes a Master of Wine

06 September, 2011

Sainsbury’s winemaker Clem Yates is one of 11 new Masters of Wine.

She is joined by Andy Howard, Marks & Spencer wine buyer.

Yates achievement follows five years of study finishing with a final-year dissertation on International Wine Challenge gold-medal winning Sauvignon Blanc.

Yates joined Sainsbury’s in 2009 and works with suppliers to develop the House and Taste the Difference ranges, as well as providing technical support to buyers.

Judith Batchelar, director of Sainsbury’s Brand, said: “We are very proud of Clem, who has worked tirelessly to achieve her MW while maintaining the highest level of commitment to making Sainsbury’s wine the superb range it is today.”

The new MWs take the total number of people with the qualification to 300 in 23 countries.
