Beaujolais launches iPhone app

19 August, 2011

Beaujolais has created an iPhone app promoting the region, hot on the heels of the launch of its iPad magazine and the release of GPS audio-guided tours.

Free to download from Apple’s iTunes store in both French and English, the concept offers users an overview of the region, a  vintage guide and food and wine matching features.

It allows users to search for domaines to visit, restaurants and places to stay in the region. Searches are made in real time, adjusted to opening times. It also features a rating system where users can rank places once they have visited them.

Anthony Collet, marketing and communications director of Inter Beaujolais, said: “We were the first region to implement iPad technology to promote its wines, and we see this launch as an innovative move and further embracement of new technologies aimed at developing wine tourism.”

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
