Lane offers support service for producers

A former Sainsbury’s wine buyer has set up a new consultancy business to help overseas wineries establish themselves in the UK market.

Robin Lane is offering a range of services through his Wine Supplier Support service.

Lane has over 30 years’ experience in the UK wine industry including seven years as senior wine buyer for Sainsbury’s, before setting up the Lane & Tatham agency company, and then spending a spell as senior national account manager at PLB.

“To be successful in the UK and Europe, you really need someone on the ground,” Lane said.

“Having a full-time person isn’t always financially viable for wineries, particularly New World ones, which is where Wine Supplier Support comes in.

“We can advise on suitable agents, or work alongside existing ones as the client’s brand representative to develop anything from distribution strategies through to advertising and marketing campaigns.

“Basically, we can turn an expert hand to whatever is needed - from a one-off project to an on-going programme.”

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
