Spar revamps British fortified range

Spar has revamped its British fortified wine range to give it a more contemporary look and bring it into line with the rest of the Spar own-label range, which has been redesigned recently.

The three-strong range, priced at £4.49, is attracting consumers looking for a cheaper alternative to sherry, according to Spar spokeswoman Cath McIlwham.

She said:  “We have a strong market share in this category, selling around 35,000 cases annually.

“The range has been redesigned to make the packaging simpler, cleaner and more contemporary, while retaining the original name so our customer base can still recognise the product.”

The range includes Pale Cream, Cream and Medium, and its packaging now features a simple, clean design with the image of a tree on a black, white and gold label.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
