Berry Bros & Rudd has changed the supplier of its Good Ordinary Claret for the first time in 34 years. The wine merchant's new own-label wine has reportedly been "radically improved" and is sourced from the 2005 vintage. It will be unveiled at the Berry Bros autumn tasting on Oct 11.

County Down wine merchant James Nicholson is celebrating the Rugby World Cup by listing a New Zealand wine inspired by the All Blacks. Earth's End Pinot Noir comes from Central Otago and features a picture of the haka on the label. Nicholson said: "Just like the New Zealand World Cup squad, it is a formidable blend, hallmarked by sheer excellence."

Harrods' wine shop will be showcasing Portuguese wines throughout October as part of a link-up with the Portuguese tourist office. The promotion, which aims to show the diversity of Portuguese produce, will kick off with a cocktail evening in the store's Georgian restaurant on Oct 9.á

West London wine merchant Armitáis sponsoring an Australian artáexhibition. The Raark exhibition -áat the Bargehouse on London's South Bank - features more than 100áAboriginal-style paintings. Armit is selling a new range of Australian wines to coincide with the start of theáexhibition, including the Spitting Spider Field Blend Red 2005 and White 2006 sport labels, designed exclusively for them.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
