Belarus vodka makes UK debut

21 September, 2007

The first vodka from Belarus has been launched in the UK.

Etalon, which means "the standard" or†"benchmark", is a super premium brand produced at the Minsk Kryshtal distillery, which was founded in 1893. It is made from grain spirit, distilled four times, and has a price tag of £25.99 for a 70cl bottle.

The vodka is being positioned primarily as a neat serve because it has a traditional vodka character, according to supplier Real Vodka.

Managing director Martin Kift said: "Etalon is taking vodka back to its traditional roots, because it should have†a†distinctive odour and taste. We believe that there is potential for growth in the super premium sector of the category, targeting vodka connoisseurs who appreciate authenticity, character and provenance."
