Offer customers what they want, when they want it and how they want it. Retailers' ranges are being driven by supplier negotiations not by customer requirements. Simple ranges with a value offering will deliver growth. As an industry both suppliers and retailers can help innovation - suppliers need to challenge themselves more to come up with more innovation and retailers should try and support NPD wherever possible.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
