Asda launches wine sampler promotion

Fifteen wines will take part in Asda’s Tasters promotion, offering consumers a discounted 75cl bottle of wine if they try a 25cl bottle first. The initiative will see a range of wines, including red, white, rosé and sparkling, available in the taster bottles.

If customers decide they like the wine, they will be able to return to the store to pick up a full-sized bottle, paying the bottle price minus the cost of the mini bottle. If the wine isn’t to their taste they will be able to return the receipt for a refund.

Participating brands include Campo Viejo, Stowells and Jacobs Creek as well as a number of Asda’s Extra Special wines. Asda’s wine buying manager Philippa Carr MW said: “Many of our customers have told us of their confusion when it comes to choosing new wines – the complex descriptions, the unwritten rules and fear of not liking the taste.

Tasters are designed to give these customers the confidence they need to try new wines and make enjoying wine accessible to all.”

Tasters will be a rolling programme, with wines changing every few months to reflect the seasons.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
