Distell creates marketing job for Kumala brand manager

Kumala’s former global brand manager has joined South African drinks group Distell as marketing manager.

The role was created for Sarah Gandy, who has worked for Kumala for five years, both at Western Wines, and after its takeover at Constellation. Gandy was responsible for all marketing activity for South Africa’s top brand.

Distell Europe managing director Gary Greenfield said: “Sarah’s experience in building a very successful South African brand will be a fantastic asset. Her prime objective will be to encourage retailers and consumers to consider the breadth and quality of South African wine and our portfolio in particular.”

Gandy said: “I was delighted to take on this role with Distell. The company has a fantastic portfolio of brands with a variety of propositions that match with different consumers and occasions. The heritage, quality of wines and the resources of this business offer a unique platform for growth.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
