New bottling line for Johnnie Walker

Diageo has completed the first stage of its Scotch whisky investment programme.

MSP Nicola Sturgeon officially opened the

£12 million Johnnie Walker bottling line at Diageo's Shieldhall plant in her Govan constituency on Sept 21 .

The line will produce 300 bottles of

Johnnie Walker

a minute, reaching an estimated 4.5 million cases a year, according to Diageo.

"Scotland needs a vibrant economy that can compete on a global stage and I'm delighted to see the kind of investment Diageo is making

here in Glasgow ," Sturgeon said.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
