NACM names new chair

04 October, 2007

The National Association of Cider Makers has named Fenella Tyler, head of cider communications at Scottish & Newcastle UK’s Bulmers cider plant in Hereford, as its new chair.

Tyler takes over from Westons managing director Helen Thomas, who has held the post for the past two years. She is only the second woman to serve as NACM chair.

Her role is to raise the profile of cider and developments in the category, spread the word about responsible marketing and promote sustainability in cidermaking.

She said: “I feel very proud to be managing the industry although I am well aware of the responsibility I am taking on. The industry is in fantastic shape at present and it is an exciting time to be taking over the reins.

“We are seeing the market growing in all categories as well as a step change in consumer attitudes towards cider, and we aim to see that continue well into the future.”

Tyler will serve as the NACM’s chair for two years before passing the role to the next association member, Aspall’s.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
