Codorníu raises Claro's profile in UK

17 October, 2007

Spanish wine specialist Codorníu has taken on the off-trade distribution for Chile's Claro Group, the owner of Santa Rita, Carmen, Terra Andina and Doña Paula wines.

The move will raise Codorníu's profile in the Chilean category. Its portfolio covers a range of price points from £4.99 for the Terra Andina range to more than £20 for top level Santa Rita wines.

Claro has completed restructuring and investment programmes to prepare for the UK launch.

UK commercial director Richard Leaver said: "The joint partnership with Codorníu will maximise our position in the off-trade and allow us to play a more relevant role in the UK. We also want to have a mix of 35 per cent of our sales at reserva level (£6.99+) ."

Codorníu will handle Claro's brands in the off-trade, and Terra Andina and Doña Paula in the on-trade, but Berkmann Wine Cellars and Stevens Garnier will continue to distribute Santa Rita and Carmen in the on-trade respectively.
