Cognac puts soft drinks into the mix

Courvoisier has teamed up with Schweppes to launch a neck collar promotion in the off-trade.

Customers who buy a 70cl or 1-litre bottle of Courvoisier VS between now and the end of the year will be entitled to a 1-litre bottle from Schweppes' mixer range every month for a year.

The giveaway is designed to inspire more people to mix Cognac at home, according to Beam Global marketing controller Jeanette Edwards. "As part of our marketing activity we are encouraging consumers to extend their enjoyment of Courvoisier beyond the after-dinner drink which is often drunk straight or over ice. Courvoisier is extremely versatile ."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
