Foster's keg joins the chilled league

19 October, 2007

Scottish & Newcastle is trialling Foster's Super Chilled Keg - a 13.1-litre keg format for its top-selling lager brand.

It is being sold for 50 via a dedicated website - fosterssuperchilledkeg.co.uk. Orders can be submitted through the website, and collected from points of sale across the UK.

Makro cash and carry branches in Charlton, Croydon, Edinburgh, Enfield, Manchester, North Acton and Rayleigh

are listed as pick-up points for

orders.

Zeolite, a crystalline mineral, is used within the keg's casing as a catalyst to chill the lager to 3C .

Off-trade sales boss Mark Gerken said: "We will soon be able to review the outcome of the trial, which is currently being held in selected wholesale outlets across the UK, in order to determine our future plans for the product."

S&N withdrew a previous Foster's keg product - CoolKeg - in 2004.

Both Heineken and Carlsberg have launched keg products this year.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
