Thresher may stalk rival Castel stores

Source reveals retailer is considering branches anywhere there is a Nicolas.

Thresher Group could follow rival retailer Castel around the UK, opening branches of Wine Rack in locations where there is a Nicolas , OLN has learned.

The tactic is one possible strategy under discussion as part of the Thresher Group's business review, which is looking at the positioning of all its fascias. The review should be completed by Christmas.

The specialist is also selling 45 off-licences as part of its regular branch monitoring process.

The leasehold properties are a mix of Threshers, Haddows, Victoria Wine, The Local and Drinks Cabin in England, Scotland and North Wales.

Guide prices for leases range from 5,000-30,000 on shops in areas including West Lothian, Edinburgh , Gloucestershire, Southampton, south-east London and Surrey. Each sale will include fixtures and fittings, but till systems and signage unique to Thresher Group are excluded.

Employment law means new owners will be obliged to offer existing shop staff jobs when the business is transferred. Christie & Co is handling the sales. For more details see www.christie.com.
