Nicolas to buy for Oddbins

Nicolas' head office will be buying French wines for Oddbins from now on - not Castel, as reported in OLN's Nov 2 issue. The 20 new Bordeaux and 15 new Burgundy wines in Oddbins are not from Castel.

Pisa leans toward variant

Harvey Miller Wine & Spirits Agencies is extending its nut liqueur brand Pisa with the launch of a cream variant.

Imported from Italy, Pisa Cream blends Italian cream with almond, pistachio and hazelnut flavours. The packaging is designed to reinforce the liqueur's place of origin, with the slanted bottle taking inspiration from the region's famous Leaning Tower.

M&S reports 'good' results

sales r ose 6.5 per cent to Sept 29. Chief executive Stuart Rose said: "We had a good first half despite a tough market impacted by unseasonable trading conditions, and at a time when many of our stores were undergoing major refurbishment."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
