Cider gets the hots for real innovation

16 November, 2007

Tesco has extended its cider range with a ready-made mulled variety.

Made for the supermarket by Suffolk cyder producer Aspall, Tesco Mulled Cider is flavoured with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, orange and lemon and has an abv of 4.7 per cent. It is being sold in 75cl bottles at 2.99.

Ian Targett, buying manager for cider, said the launch was part of the retailer's efforts to "drive innovation" within the cider industry.

"We have worked hard this year to offer our customers new and interesting products, and in conjunction with Aspall we have created a top quality mulled cider in a convenient format," he said.

Earlier this year Tesco launched an own-label over-ice cider, Oakleys, and a low-alcohol own-label cider.

One of the most fascinating stories in wine, fit to stand alongside the Judgement of Paris, is that of Rudy Kurniawan, a man who managed to fool friends, auction houses and experts into believing they were drinking some of the world’s most expensive wines.
