Report: Thresher and Oddbins could merge

10 December, 2007

Thresher Group owner Vision Capital has approached Oddbins' parent company Castel Group to discuss a possible merger, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reports the two companies held a "secret meeting to discuss the tie-up and a number of other matters of collaboration such as operations and corporate social responsibility".

Private equity firm Vision Capital bought Thresher Group earlier this year, appointing Yvonne Rankin as chief executive.

Oddbins has struggled in an increasingly competitive UK drinks market - posting a loss of 8.7m in the year to Dec 31 2006.
