New distributor for Argiano

17 December, 2007

Italian producer Argiano has appointed Thorman Hunt its new UK distributor.

The agent will import a number of the Brunello di Montalcino producer’s wines, including the 2006 Rosso di Montalcino and the 2005 Suolo, a Sangiovese made from grapes from two different vineyards.

Italian buyer Alastair Llewellyn-Smith will be in charge of sales. He said: “We consider ourselves very fortunate to have added Argiano to our portfolio, and look forward to building on the excellent work done by its previous agent.”

The Argiano estate, situated to the south-west of Montalcino, has 48 hectares of vineyards with a southerly exposure. Its winemaking team includes winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers and cellar-master Adriano Bambagioni.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
