Independent retailers sign up to Chianti tasting

Thirty-four independent wine merchants have signed up to take part in a Chianti tasting weekend at the end of the month to help increase awareness of the Tuscan wine region.

The Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico’s Black Rooster tasting weekend, organised in conjunction with OLN’s sister magazine Wine & Spirit, will allow retailers and their customers to give their views on up to four different Chianti Classicos and Reservas after trying them for free.

A select number of retailers will also be invited to participate in a round table discussion with members of the wine trade and press at the Chianti Classico Collection tasting in Florence on Feb 20.

Marco Pallanti, president of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico said: “Chianti Classico has evolved considerably over recent years and we are keen to increase awareness of what our wines have to offer both amongst consumers and independent retailers.”

The event will take place on Jan 26 and 27 or Jan 25 and 26 for shops that are not open on Sundays.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
