Berry appointed charity chairman

Drinks trade charity The Benevolent has appointed Berry Bros & Rudd chairman Simon Berry as its chairman for 2008.

Benevolent chief executive Cheng Loo said Berry "has a great wealth of knowledge and expertise in the trade and has been a member of The Benevolent council for many years. We look forward to working with him on some new and exciting projects in 2008 ".

Berry said: "It is an honour. The Benevolent is a highly esteemed and well-established charity which carries out fantastic work for those in need. I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead and look forward to being part of it."

Berry, who has worked in the wine trade for more than 30 years, takes over the position from Chivas Brothers' communications director Vanessa Wright.
