S&N names new off-trade marketing head

Scottish & Newcastle UK has appointed Carol Saunders as its new head of off-trade customer marketing, taking over from Craig Clarkson.

As head of the brewer's insight & customer excellence team, Saunders helped develop S&N's category vision, which it hopes will grow the off-trade long alcoholic drinks market by £300 million in the next five years.

Clarkson has moved to another part of the company, a spokeswoman told OLN.

Saunders said: "The main objective in my new role is to continue the strong category approach from S&N, taking our category vision and using that to unlock the potential of the category, thereby creating value for the market and our customers."

Off-trade sales director Mark Gerken commented: "Carol has had an exceptional year leading the development of the insight & customer excellence team and the delivery of the category vision work. Carol's new role is a key appointment aimed to help bring our category vision to life, and we are confident that, through her leadership, knowledge and experience, Carol and her team will be able to successfully communicate its potential to our customers in all channels within the off-trade."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
