Kopparberg distributor Cider of Sweden has appointed Daryl Moss

its first national off-trade sales manager. Moss joins from SHS Sales & Marketing where he worked on developing brands such as WKD and Merrydown with Tesco, Sainsbury's and the Co-op.

Cains has launched what it claims is the first British ale in a pint can. Cains FA is being

released in the format in 180 Asda stores as a response to the recent EU ruling allowing the UK to keep imperial measures.

Welsh rugby union team sponsor Brains has produced a 12-pack of its SA ale brand for Welsh branches of Tesco, to coincide with the Six Nations tournament. The pack will retail for £8.99 and feature an exclusive offer to buy a Brains T-shirt for £9.99.

A blueberry version of St Helier pear cider has been added to the range by ICB. The brand will be in 50cl bottles with an rrp of £1.99, and litres at £3.69. Joint managing director Paul Burton said that "blueberries have a heritage appeal and a long-developed folklore around them".

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
