Spitfire teams up with rugby tournament

Rugby-themed TV and press ads featuring Shepherd Neame's premium ale brand, Spitfire are being rolled out to support the RBS Six Nations rugby tournament.

The Spitfire Bottle of Britain campaign starts today with a branded championship supplement appearing in the Evening Standard.

TV ads will air from Saturday when the tournament kicks off with matches between Ireland and Italy and England and Wales.

Shepherd Neame sales and marketing director Graeme Craig, said: "Spitfire continues to grow as a brand as a result of a successful marketing strategy of sponsorships and associations with major sporting events.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
