Bonfils acquires 'classic' UK brand

Languedoc-based producer Bonfils has bought the James Herrick brand from the Foster's Group.

The deal includes the acquisition of 180 h a

of Chardonnay vineyards and the wine-making site Domaine de la Motte, near Narbonne, where Bonfils plans to consolidate its vinification operations.

Founded in 1993 by the English winemaker James Herrick, the James Herrick brand has grown to reach sales of 120,000 cases globally. The UK remains a key development market, according to Bonfils.

Chairman Laurent Bonfils said: "We are really pleased to be taking on such a classic brand. With

demand for Chardonnay

on the increase, there is a n opportunity to bring the brand to a new audience."

Bonfils currently owns more than 1,050 h a

across 13 domaines in the Languedoc and one in Bordeaux. It also owns the premium Languedoc wine trading company Maurel Vedeau and the organic wine producer Monfreux de Fages, based in the Herault region.
