Exclusive deal for unusual Italian

08 February, 2008

Maison du Vin, of Hawkhurst, Kent, is the exclusive UK retailer for the 2004 vintage of Cento Uve - the Italian wine made from 152 grape varieties.

Produced by Mario Giribaldi, the wine is described by owner Kevin Griffin as "powerfully built, yet has tremendous finesse with lashings of fruit and a wonderful seductive inky black colour".

The wine is made from 50 per cent Nebbiolo, but Griffin said that does not mean the other 151 grapes are subordinate.

The wine is on sale

for £29.99.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
