My advice to traditional wine merchants is: Hold your nerve and keep doing what you're doing well. It's all about offering a bespoke service - you can't be complacent. You have to work at it very hard and think about your business and give it a unique selling point. Having a personal relationship with your customers and listening to them will ensure growth in 2008.

These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
