Moreno's new role

04 April, 2008

Moreno Wines has been appointed UK agent for Bordeaux negociant Ginestet.

The move will make Moreno agent for a number of Taillan Group wines, including Château Chasse-Spleen and Château Haut Bages.

Alex Canneti, Moreno sales & marketing director, said: "For anyone interested in Bordeaux, Ginestet is a dream to be able to work with, having an unrivalled choice of top quality Bordeaux.

"At a time when Bordeaux is receiving new interest from buyers, we are confident we can offer a superb Bordeaux service."

Ginestet became part of the Taillan Group in 1978. Its wines range from generic Bordeaux up to the top first growths.

Maida Vale-based Moreno will work as supplier of Ginestet to independent wine merchants and the multiples.

The merchant also specialises in Spanish wine and has collections from Italy, Argentina, Chile and Australia.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
