English Wine Week is running

from May 24 to June 1 this year and we wanted to shout about how we encourage our customers to buy English wine. Bring up the subject and most will wrinkle their nose and make a face, but say the words "free tasting" and you'll find yourself with a room full of wine

lovers, eager to taste whatever you pour them. When we did this last year we kept the theme of the tasting secret, so when we revealed it was English wine people were curious. Open some bottles of dry, flinty whites and crisp, pale rosés and you've suddenly converted a room full of sceptics. Round the tasting off with something sparkling and you'll find your sales of English

wines spring up nicely."

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
