New group breathes life into O2 research

Nomacorc has teamed up with other manufacturers, distributers, suppliers and service providers to the wine trade to set up a non-profit organisation devoted to oxygen management in wines.

The group, named O2inWines, will comprise

research institutes and universities recognised for their research into the influence of oxygen on wine quality as well as businesses.

The University of California at Davis, the Australian Wine Research Institute and the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique at Montpellier have joined.

The group's first initiative will be to sponsor a conference on the latest research into oxygen management in wines

on June 2-3.

Nomacorc's global research director Olav Aagaard said: "Our goal in creating the O2inWines association is to accelerate the industry's learning of oxygen's impact on wine quality . We intend to use this knowledge to provide winemakers with better tools and insight into how to optimise wine production."
