Retro range feeds into trends

Barr Soft Drinks has launched a range of traditional carbonated drinks in four flavours.

Barr's Originals comes in Real Lemonade, Ginger Beer, Dandelion & Burdock and Cream Soda varieties, supplied in old-fashioned 75cl glass bottles.

The drinks will be backed by press advertising and sampling and carry an rrp of £1.49.

Head of marketing Adrian Troy said: "We have taken four recipes from our archives and refined them for the launch.

"Authenticity, naturalness and great taste are major trends which are driving consumer choice and our drinks deliver on all these fronts."

Barr's branded dandelion and burdock, D'N'B, is to sponsor the England rugby league team in the World Cup in Australia in October and November.

The deal is an extension of the brand's rugby league involvement, which already includes backing the Super League and National League.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
