You can't afford to miss LIWF or Distil

16 May, 2008

Twenty thousand wines from 27 countries and 209 wine-producing regions will be on show at more than 1,250 stands at the London wine fair in the Excel exhibition centre from May 20-21.

France is the most heavily represented country, making up 25% of the wines on show, according to wine list company Tasting Buddy, which has teamed up with fair organiser Brintex to provide an online catalogue for the event.

There will be wines made from 136 grape

varieties, with Sauvignon Blanc the most popular for varietal wines, followed by Chardonnay, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Eighty-five per cent of the

event is worth looking at for off-trade visitors as only 15% of wines are on-trade exclusives.

Independents are the busiest sector for the take-home market, with more than 8,000 boutique and independent label wines on taste.

Organiser Brintex has given spirits a separate fair

- Distil - for the first time.
