Group pledges compensation for those who helped sort out delivery failures

The Thresher Group has pledged to repay thousands of pounds in costs to suppliers who stepped in to deliver to stores after a failure in its distribution system lead to empty shelves.

have been beset

by supply problems since switching its contract from Tradeteam to Christian Salvesen in April.

OLN previously reported managers' anger at having limited stock, and claims by some that the problems had caused them to miss out on sales over the Easter weekend - traditionally one of the trade's biggest spikes.

As a short-term measure, Thresher contacted a handful of its key suppliers asking whether they could deliver directly to stores, rather than to a central depot.

One of the handful who was able to help told OLN: "They got in touch to ask for help, and we responded. Clearly we had a vested interest to make sure our products were available. It's been very labour intensive. We've had to employ extra staff and people have been working overtime. It's cost us a lot of money we hadn't budgeted for."

Thresher Group chief executive Yvonne Rankin confirmed the company will compensate suppliers

and said

deliveries were now back to normal. "We arranged the direct delivery through mutual agreement and it's great that

suppliers came to our support. The system's now up to scratch."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
