Barrel Booze push for Chilean range

A new range of Chilean wines has been launched by Barrel Booze, the specialist supplier to the mainstream independent off-trade.

Las Montanas is produced by Chile's Export Union and comprises Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and a Merlot rosé.

The guide retail price is £4.29.

Ishwinder Binning, director of sales at Barrel Booze, said: "We expect sales to reflect the increasing popularity of wines from Chile."

Nielsen figures for 2007 showed Chilean wine sales in the UK were up by 23% to £338 million.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
