Tesco is selling 20,000 pitcher boxes of Bacardi as the spirits giant looks to get people drinking the rum with different mixers. The packaging for the boxes, which contain a pitcher from which to serve long Bacardi drinks, has serving suggestions to go with cranberry juice, orange juice, ginger ale and lime & soda.

A 17% abv aperitif has been launched by Armagnac producer Domaine du Tariquet in the UK. The product, called Tariquet, has an Armagnac base and is being sold through London-based France Domaines.

VK Vodka Kick is the title sponsor of the Chatsworth Rally Show, to be held at the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire on June 7 and 8. Steve Perez, managing director of VK owner Global Brands and himself a rally driver, will be among those taking part.

Six Isles Island blended malt whisky has signed a sponsorship agreement with a yacht competing in the Round Britain Experience. The yacht will be named Six Isles and be skippered by Sally Thompson, sister of Stuart, brand owner Ian Macleod Distillers' area director for northern Europe.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
