Derek Smedley MW, one of the International Wine Challenge's four

co-chairmen, is leading a vertical tasting of wines from Bedfordshire's Warden Abbey vineyard at the Flying Corkscrew, the independent based in Water End, Hertfordshire.

Smedley, a consultant to the wine producer, will be sharing older wines as well as more recent vintages with customers at the June 27 event. Tickets are priced at 10 for club members and 15 for non-members.

The retailer warns customers to "be prepared to have your view of English wine changed for ever".

Edinburgh's Great Grog Company

is taking part in next week's Royal Highland Show in Ingliston, on the outskirts of the Scottish capital.

The wine merchant will have a stand at the food hall and will be running 30-minute tutored tastings, on the hour, between 12pm and 4pm. The show takes place from June 19-22.

Duncan Murray, the owner of Duncan Murray Wines in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, is taking part in Channel 4's Come Dine With Me programme.

Cameras filmed Murray at work in the store on May 26 and 30. The show will be aired later in the year.

Chipping Campden's Bennetts Fine Wines is holding its summer tasting at nearby Chipping Campden School in Gloucestershire on July 5.

The merchant describes the event as a "relaxed and informal walk-around tasting of about 100 wines" from its range.

Bennetts will be joined by local retailers Broadway Deli, Tapas in a Box and Simeon Hudson-Evans of cheesemonger Fromage to Age, each of which will have food to sample and buy. The 12.50-a-head event will run from 7pm to 9pm.
