16 May, 2008

Oddbins has closed 21 more branches to leave its UK estate at 154.

In March parent company Castel announced it would be splitting Oddbins into three sections. This week it confirmed that store numbers in each division were now lower than previously stated.

There are now 61 "high street" stores compared

with the projected 66; 48 "suburban" stores against the original 65; and 45 "bulk" stores against the stated 47.

Human resources director Ayo Akintola said: "The schedule for the transition or closure of stores has progressed smoothly and has seen no great obstacles.

"While there has been some understandable disappointment at the closure of certain stores the overall changes have gone through with no significant disruption. Whil e it is still early in the process, preliminary indications point to positive results from the changes."
