LIWF visitor figures revised
Published:  30 June, 2008

Official visitor numbers for this year’s London International Wine Fair and Distil have been cut by 1,000 following a counting error.

Around 1,000 exhibitors who crossed from the Wine Fair halls to Distil were wrongly counted as visitors, organiser firm Brintex announced.

It reduced visitor numbers for both events to 14,900, representing a nine per cent rise on 2007 rather than the originally reported 17 per cent.

Event director James Murray said he was still “delighted” with the figures, which remain a record for the 28-year-old event.

“In the run-up to and during the LIWF and Distil we have constantly reinforced the message that the quality of audience is more important than the quantity.”

Faith in fakes

One of the most fascinating stories in wine, fit to stand alongside the Judgement of Paris, is that of Rudy Kurniawan, a man who managed to fool friends, auction houses and experts into believing they were drinking some of the world’s most expensive wines.
