Two additions for Gnarly Head in UK

27 June, 2008

Bibendum Wine is launching two wines under the Gnarly Head brand from Californian producer Delicato.

The Chardonnay and Merlot varietals are being listed by Sainsbury's with a bottle price of £6.65.

Gnarly Head takes its name from the gnarled old vines found in older Californian vineyards and was introduced to the US domestic market with an Old Vine Zinfandel in 2004.

The two wines that are coming to the UK, plus a Cabernet Sauvignon, joined the range in January.

The Zinfandel is also exported to Canada and Sweden.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
