HwCg Specialist has doubled its sales force and aims to grow its business with the independent and specialist sectors. HwCg has recruited a market intelligence analyst and brought the PR function in-house, as well as creating the post of technical support manager. The Montes Music & Wine Experience won national press coverage, and the Real Rosé Company is growing its listings as well as sponsoring Gastro Alfresco 2008. A UK sampling tour and a media campaign

for the brand are in the pipeline. HwCg plans to grow its South African presence

and to focus on its two separate sales channels, Specialist and International, in the year to come.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
