Distillery releases 15 Year Old malt
Published:  11 July, 2008

Tobermory, the only distillery on the Isle of Mull off the Scottish west coast, has released a limited edition 15 Year Old single malt.

The non-chill filtered whisky is matured in Gonzalez Byass oloroso sherry casks on the mainland, then returned to Mull for the final year before bottling. It's described by the distiller as having "a taste of rich sherry fruit cake, milk chocolate, creamy toffee and light oak, with a hint of white pepper and a spicy tang".

The bottle is hand-wrapped in tissue

with an illustration of Tobermory Bay and presented in an oak gift box. An envelope inside the box contains an historic photograph of the bay and tasting notes from Tobermory's master distiller .

Marketing manager Alison Winship said: "The release of this cherished 15 Year Old island single malt from Tobermory's distillery has been inspired by the island and its people - a place of tradition and authenticity."

Built in 1798, Tobermory distillery is owned by Burn Stewart Distillers.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
