Biodesel crops for Ara growers' land

11 July, 2008

New Zealand's Winegrowers of Ara has leased 760ha of its irrigated future vineyard land to Biodiesel New Zealand. The deal with the supplier of environmentally-friendly fuel will see oilseed rape and other crops grown on its Waihopai Valley site.

Winegrowers of Ara has an option to buy biodiesel produced from the site for use in winegrowing operations.

Damian Martin, who oversees viticulture and winemaking at the company, said: "This initiative enables us to work towards our goal of energy efficiency while providing for the development of our vineyard land."
