Arniston Bay brut completes range

South African wine brand Arniston Bay is making its first foray into the sparkling wine category with the launch of a tank-fermented non-vintage

brut.

The Arniston Bay Charmat is made from Colombard grapes and is described by brand owner The Company of Wine People as having "zesty tropical fruit flavours

and a clean, crisp finish". It will retail for 7.99 .

Barney Davis, brand and business development manager, said: "With sales of sparkling wine continuing to enjoy above average growth , we see the Arniston Bay Charmat Brut as a natural extension to the range. This makes our offering to the retailer a more complete one."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
