The Campaign for Real Ale is promoting bottle-conditioned beers with a neck collar campaign.

will hang on the necks of beers from some of the 151 breweries wh ich have signed up to Camra's Real Ale in a Bottle programme. The back of the tag has information about real ale in a bottle, how bottle-conditioned beers differ from other bottled beers and how to store and pour ales properly.

The scheme was piloted with the Durham, Hook Norton, Tryst and Woodfordes breweries at the Great British Beer Festival this week, with a view to rolling it out around the country later this year.

A spokesman said: "Camra believes that bottle-conditioned beers are the next best thing to the draught real ale you find in the pub."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
