A sporting effort from Blackthorn

Gaymer Cider Company's Blackthorn is investing in a £1.2 million marketing campaign linking the brand to sport in the south west.

The campaign,

Loving Sport in Blackthorn Country, will cover regional print, radio and outdoor advertising, sponsorship of local sports teams and a PR campaign backing sports in the region, including skittles.

Gaymer managing director John Mills said: "Blackthorn's target consumers are down-to-earth blokes , and sport is an integral part of their lives. Our latest campaign aims to integrate the brand into the heart of the community."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
